Paris, France – 11th June – 7th June 2015: H2B2VS at “FUTUR EN SEINE”
“Futur en Seine” took place this year, from June 11th till 21st in the heart of Paris to presents the latest digital French and international innovations to professionals and consumers.
H2B2VS was kindly invited by France Télévisions to demonstrate the hybrid distribution of 4K TV, anticipating what could be the introduction of 4K on terrestrial TV networks.
“Futur en Seine” is an international festival presenting the latest digital French and international innovations to professionals and consumers. The 6th edition started with the Innovation village, during 4 days from 11th till 14th at CNAM, Musée des Arts et Métiers. “Futur en Seine” is organized by Cap Digital, Paris Region’s business cluster for digital contents and services.
H2B2VS was kindly invited by France Télévisions to demonstrate the hybrid distribution of 4K TV.
This is a way to offer a 4K (Ultra High Definition) experience to end-users having connected TVs and watching HD TV programmes on broadcast networks.
SHVC is used to send on the broadcast network the HD picture and an enhancement layer on the broadband network. The terminal uses these two layers to decode and display a 4K video, thanks to a picture-accurate synchronization mechanism.
This approach is an answer to introduce 4K services on terrestrial networks which suffer from spectrum scarcity further to the high pressure from mobile operators to release frequencies in the UHF band.
This demonstration was the continuation of what was shown by the H2B2VS project during the 2015 French Open tennis championship (Paris, 23rd May – 7th June 2015).
